What Do I Do If I Am A Cutter?

Dear Teens,

Sometimes we face difficult situations in life that make us feel overwhelmed, stressed, or sad. It’s understandable that you may feel like you need to cope with these emotions in some way, but cutting is not a healthy option.

Cutting is the act of deliberately injuring oneself by making cuts with a sharp object. While it may provide temporary relief, it is not a permanent solution and can be very dangerous.

First and foremost, cutting is a form of self-harm. God has created each of us with unique talents, skills, and qualities to fulfill His plan for our lives. We are valuable and loved, and hurting ourselves goes against His will for us. It can also become addictive, creating a cycle of negative behavior that is hard to break.

Additionally, cutting can lead to serious physical harm. Deep cuts can result in severe bleeding and possible infection. Damaging nerves or tendons can cause permanent damage, and scars may be visible for the rest of your life.

Instead of turning to cutting, know that there are healthier ways to deal with negative emotions. Talk to someone you trust, like a parent, teacher, or Christian counselor. Prayer and reading the Bible can also bring comfort and peace. Exercise, meditation, and relaxation techniques like deep breathing can also help manage stress and anxiety.

Remember that you are not alone and that seeking help is a brave step towards healing. God loves you and wants you to live a healthy, happy life. Trust in Him and seek His guidance for the strength to overcome any challenges you may face.
